OMI stands for open mobility infrastructure. The plan is to support municipalities in creating digital mobility infrastructure. This is to be established alongside analog infrastructures such as roads. To develop the infrastructure, the OMI researchers want to bring together providers and potential users of transportation options through a needs-based human-technology interaction. With the help of a self-service portal, local actors such as private individuals, energy providers or associations can set up a joint sharing service for which they themselves provide cars or bicycles, for example. The service is also to be networked with existing mobility services such as public transportation. An intuitive app will help citizens plan, book and pay. In this way, the smartphone sometimes becomes a digital vehicle key.
